I'm a diabetic

So, I was silly.  On the morning of my 27th birthday I decided to do a health screening at work provided for all the employees so that I could get a $30 gift card.  I did on my birthday because that's when they were doing them and I didn't think I'd get any bad news from them on my health status.  But when it was time to get my results, the nurse giving me the results asked me when was the last time I ate.  I told her last night and she had this shocked look on her face.  She then told me my blood sugar was 179 (it's supposed to be between 60-100).  I just acted calm in front of her.  But inside I was getting pretty paranoid.  All day I was convinced that I was diabetic already, but my coworkers tried to convince me I wasn't and I felt better that maybe it was a mistake.  A few days later though, I checked my urine myself and saw that I had glucose in my urine, so once again was  convinced I probably had diabetes, but not 100% sure yet.  Anyways, I had my blood drawn by the lab today and some other more diagnostic lab tests show that I definitely am diabetic.  Sigh, I thought I'd have much longer to be without it or that hopefully I wouldn't get it since I'm not overweight and try to keep myself active.  But I guess my big eating style and genetics have gotten to me.  I guess it's nice that I found out earlier than later and can now start making some important lifestyle changes.

So, if you have a family history, I recommend getting your labs done at least once a year ;)
